Popular torrent site, btjunkie.org, voluntarily shut its operation down today, abandoning nearly a decade of file sharing history.
It has been assumed the move was a reaction to avoid being the next target of the latest of federal crack downs which have already laid out Torrent sites PirateBay and Megaupload. "we've been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it's time to move on." says the British based .org site. Insinuating the move has been in response to what I can only imagine being an overwhelming encumbrance in midst of the recent crackdown that has left a wake of legal issues for sites already facing prosecution.
Is this another sign that pirated Music has seen the end of days and the music industry can go back to charging $20 for a CD they pay 5 cents to make (including the royalties they pay artists) or will illegal pirated media find itself a new outlet? One thing is certain, the industry is not giving up on its fight, for its right. to gouging.
