Butch Vig Doubts Kurt Cobain Solo Material Exists

Legendary rock producer Butch Vig says he doubts Kurt Cobain recorded solo material before his death.  Vig insists the songs were only "in his head".

Former Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson sparked rumors a few weeks ago while he was promoting his new book 'Letters To Kurt' saying that Cobain had recorded an albums worth of material before he died in 1994.

Butch Vig, who produced Nirvana's breakthrough album 'Nevermind' doubts any of the songs were ever recorded.  Vig told NME "He was working on songs, but they were just in his head.  He might have just played some songs to Eric [Erlandson].. Around that time period he only wanted to talk about Courtney's album.  I never heard any of his songs."

Coheed And Cambria Introduce New Bassist

Coheed and Cambria get Zach Cooper to replace Michael Todd as bassist after his legal trouble and substance abuse problems.  Zach Cooper is a former member of AM to AM.

Michael Todd left the band in 2011 after holding up a drugstore just before their opening gig for Soundgarden in Massachusetts.  Then drummer Chris Pennie left the band and was replaced by original drummer Josh Eppard.

The video below shows the band in the studio working on their sixth studio album and introduces Cooper as part of the band.

Hologram Maker To Resurrect Cobain, Hendrix

The makers of the Tupac hologram say they hope to make history (or money..cough.) by touring other musicians like Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix.

NME interviewed Sanj Surati from Musion Technology Ltd and he said it "would be a cool thing" to see Elvis onstage performing with Justin Beiber. When asked who else he wanted for holographic resurrections he said "Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, oh and Michael Jackson would be the ultimate one. Maybe even Whitney Houston."

Dr. Dre has said that hologram Tupac was "strictly for Coachella", Surati says it "makes sense" to take Tupac's likeness on tour.  "This is obviously a historic and exciting initiative that we're all witnessing currently, and it would make sense for them to bring it to Europe and maybe take it to the rest of the world." said Surati.

So is this hologram thing going to far? Or would you like to see other deceased musicians onstage?  Let us know who in the comments below.

Isis And Deftones Members Form New Band Palms

Chino Moreno the frontman for the Deftones might be in competition with Dave Grohl to see how many projects he can join.

ISIS members Aaron Harris, Clifford Meyer and Jeff Caxide have formed a band with Moreno called Palms.  "Clifford, Jeff and I started Palms a little over a year ago out of desire to continue making music together after ISIS ended." said Harris.  "Chino joined shortly after and our sound took shape from there.  We've worked really hard on this first release and are excited for people to hear it.  It's nice to be back behind the drum kit, and with this line up."

Palms debut album will be released later this year.  A official release date has not been announced.

Moreno said of the project. "Being a huge ISIS fan I've always dug the moods these dudes convey with their sound.  I am excited to combine my sense of creativity with theirs, and to have fun doing so."   This news comes after a big announcement earlier this week that Deftones will be joined by System of a Down on a summer tour.

Deftones are currently in the studio recording their seventh studio album.  Chino is in for a busy summer.

Iggy Pop Makes Album Of Covers

Iggy Pop announced he is working on a album of covers songs named 'Apres'.  Some of the covers getting Iggified?  The Beatles 'Michelle' and Frank Sinatra's 'Only The Lonely' to name a few.  But most of the tracks on the album are French songs.

"All popular music forms of today get their strength from the beat.  Rap, hip-hop, metal, pop and rock producers will tell you that the beats they use imitate the human heartbeat and that is where the power lies.  I've always loved this other feeling, one that is intimate, sometimes a little sad, and does not try to beat me on the head."  Iggy told NME.

"I wanted to sing some of these songs myself, hoping to bring the feeling I felt as a listener to my listeners through my voice.  Many of these songs are in french, probably because it is French culture which has most stubbornly resisted the mortal attacks of the Anglo-American music machine."

'Apres' will be released May 9th.

'Apres' Track list:

'Et Si Tu N'Existais Pas' (Joe Dassin)
'La Javanaise' (Serge Gainsbourg)
'Everybody's Talkin' (Harry Nilsson)
'I'm Going Away Smiling' (Yoko Ono)
'La Vie En Rose' (Edith Piaf)
'Les Passantes' (Georges Brassens)
'Syracuse' (Henri Salvador)
'What Is This Thing Called Love?' (Cole Porter)
'Michelle' (The Beatles)
'Only the Lonely' (Frank Sinatra)

Buckcherry Announce New Album In September Along With A Short Movie

Buckcherry announced their new album 'Confessions' is due out in September.  They also are releasing a short film to go with the album.

Singer Josh Todd says the album will be the soundtrack to the movie. "It's based around the seven sins and true events that happened in my life as well, when I was younger."  Josh Todd is no stranger to acting, he has appeared in everything from The Shield, to XXX.  But Todd says he has someone in mind to play the lead, and no he wont be starring in it.  "I think it's gonna be a real treat to people who love this band and people who are just discovering Buckcherry for the first time."

As for the album, "It's definitely a heavier, musically, record than we've had, and more melodic.  It's pretty intense, but everybody's gonna love it.  It's quintessential Buckcherry at the end of the day.  But we have all those peaks and valleys.  That's what we want on all our records - dynamics - and I think people are gonna dig it."

Velvet Revolver Guitarist Dave Kushner Starts Animated Band

Velvet Revolver guitarist Dave Kushner was interviewed with RollingStone.com about his new "animated" band PusherJones.

The band consists of 'The Simpsons' creative director Dave Warren, singer Frankie Perez (Camp Freddy, Scars On Broadway), bassist Scott Schriner (Weezer), and drummer Joey Castillo (Queens Of The Stone Age).  'Count Me Out' will be released May 1st, and is included on 'Avengers Assemble' a compilation of music from and inspired by 'Marvel's The Avengers'.  The track can be streamed at RollingStone.com

"We're all infuenced by everthing from Zeppelin and Sabbath to newer bands.  A lot of it has been based on different stuff that has happened to me or stuff I've heard being in Velvet Revolver for eight years.  It's basically about a big, notorious rock band, and there's a new guy that's coming into the band.  You're basically seeing all of the dysfunction and insanity, and the things that make for great rock bands through the eyes of the new guy."  Kushner told Rolling Stone.

Kushner and Warren are working on a 5 song EP for early this summer, and are working on a TV pilot for 'PusherJones' the animated series.  "We asked ourselves, what if the Gorillaz were more like Guns N' Roses?  said Kushner.

Ted Nugent Under Investigation By The Secret Service

Ted Nugent is under investigation by the Secret Service for a comment during a speech supporting Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.

Nugent spoke to a crowd at a National Rifle Association convention on saturday, April 15th.  "If you don't know that our govermnet is rubbing its ass with the Constitiution, you're living under a rock someplace.  And that there's a dead soldier an airman or marine, a seaman, a hero of the military that just got his legs blown off for the U.S. Constitution, and we got a President and Attorney General who doesn't  even like the Constitution." said Nugent.

The following statement about President Barack Obama put Nugent on the radar with the Secret Service.  "If Barack Obama becomes the President in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year."

Our previous segment 'Oh, Dave' about Dave Mustaine's crazy comments lately, is being swapped this week with 'Oh, Ted'.  When Nugent gets the heat off of him from the Secret Service he will either keep his mouth shut for awhile or make even crazier statments.  I assume 'Oh, Ted' will be a ongoing segment for awhile.

Check out Ted Nugent's remarks to the NRA below:
